The hospital has repeatedly excelled when compared to national benchmarks in the expansive Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) database.
Survival rates unsurpassed Simply put, survival for our patients far exceeds mathematically predicted expectations.
A long, innovative history Yale-New Haven Hospital has a long and distinguished history of open-heart surgery by surgeons who are internationally known. In 1984, our surgeons performed the first heart transplant in Connecticut.
The YNHH open-heart program began with pioneer William W.L. Glenn, MD, in 1956. In 1969, the hospital introduced the new technique of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Since then, Yale-New Haven surgeons have performed more than 30,000 open-heart procedures.
