Electrophysiology

Yale-New Haven Hospital's Electrophysiology and Cardiac Arrhythmia Service treats patients with arrhythmias or abnormal heart rates.

Arrhythmias are fairly common, causing the heart to beat either too fast (tachycardia) or too slow (bradycardia).

Some arrhythmias are harmless and can be treated with lifestyle changes, while others are more serious and require medications and devices, including pacemakers and defibrillators.

Our specialists are well experienced in treating all types of arrhythmias. They can diagnose the problem, prescribe medications, perform procedures and consult with your doctor. They provide consultative and follow-up evaluations.

Full-time specialists are available to help hospitalized patients with arrhythmias.

Procedures offered:

In addition, our electrophisiology specialists collaborate with Yale-New Haven cardiac surgeons to offer a minimally invasive procedure called "minimaze" for the advanced treatment of atrial fibrillation.

Apporximately 300 new outpatient evaluations are performed annually.
