Heart Transplant and Mechanical Heart

jarvic2000

Since 1984, the Yale-New Haven Heart Transplantation Program has performed more than 250 heart transplants. The program’s multidisciplinary team provides advanced therapies for patients awaiting a transplant, including pharmacologic and device therapies.

Novacor Implant
YNHH has been among the largest volume implantation center in the world for the "work horse" artificial heart device, Novacor. This artificial heart device successfully supported one YNHH patient for four years, until he received a transplant.

The Jarvik 2000
YNHH is one of a handful of centers implanting the new miniaturized artificial heart device, Jarvik 2000, invented by artificial heart pioneer Dr. Robert Jarvik.

Currently, Yale-New Haven is implanting the HeartMate II ventriucular assist device to complement the array of available therapies for patients with heart failure. Not only is this particular device durable and dependable as a bridge to transplant, but it shows great promise as a long-term therapy.
