Graduate Medical Education
Yale-New Haven Hospital provides training for more than 700 residents and
fellows in more than 60 accredited programs of graduate medical education.
Medical students may check the electives offered by Yale School of Medicine.
Ultrasound
The hospital provides training and clinical didactic education for ultrasonographers through its own Yale-New Haven Hospital School of Diagnostic Ultrasound, which offers a 12-month general sonography program, as well as a six-month program in echocardiography.
The program is accredited by JRC-DMS and a certificate is rewarded at the completion of the program.

Yale-New Haven Hospital is a clinical training site for several diagnostic imaging programs and has developed affiliations with Gateway Community College and Quinnipiac University providing hands-on clinical experience for academic student technologists. The department of Religious Ministries offers educational programs accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. for clergy, seminarians and qualified lay people. These programs include a full-time stipended nine-month chaplain residency program, a 10-week summer unit and a six-month extended (part-time) unit. The one-year administrative fellowship at Yale-New Haven Hospital provides an opportunity for administrative Fellows to work directly with members of the senior leadership team to achieve operational objectives and prepare for leadership positions in academic medical centers. The administrative Fellow is a contributing member of the administrative team and reports to the Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer of Yale-New Haven Hospital. The Fellow also receives access and exposure to all members of the Senior Management team as well as hands-on mentoring support through the Department of Operations Support, an internal operations consulting division directly supporting the Office of the President.
The one-year fellowship program is tailored to the specific needs and interests of the administrative Fellow and project assignments are made based on initiatives underway during the administrative Fellow’s tenure at the hospital. Key areas of focus typically include operational effectiveness, service excellence, regulatory readiness, operating budget and business plan development among others. Applicants must have a master’s degree in health services administration, business administration or a closely related field of study. For individuals more interested in strategic planning, Yale New Haven Health System also offers a one-year administrative fellowship, where Fellows rotate through the three major hospitals in the Health System: Yale-New Haven, Greenwich and Bridgeport. Yale-New Haven Hospital offers summer internship opportunities in hospital administration. Interns are based in the Department of Operations Support, an internal consulting group within the hospital, and are assigned a mentor from the Executive Team. In addition to obtaining invaluable mentorship, interns also gain first-hand operational and experience in a leading academic medical center as integral members of project teams. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a master health services administration, business administration or closely related academic program. The program begins in early June and applications must be submitted by February 15. Yale-New Haven Hospital, in conjunction with the Yale University School of Medicine Section of Emergency Medicine, offers a variety of EMS-related initial and continuing education programs.
EMT-Paramedic
The hospital cosponsors a 12-month EMT-Paramedic program leading to eligibility
for state licensure and national registry. Prerequisites: current
basic level EMT certification and some relevant field experience. EMT refresher programs, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Pediatric Education for Prehospital Providers (PEPP), Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) and CPR certification and recertification courses are also available.
