Blood draw stations
Blood draw stations are located throughout the greater New Haven area and provide laboratory testing services to the public. All major insurance plans are accepted and no appointments are necessary.

Chest Pain Center
After evaluation and testing in the Emergency Department, most patients complaining of chest pains can be treated in the Chest Pain Center. Cardiac imaging technology that provides three-dimensional images of the heart enables doctors to understand what is causing chest pain before they make a decision to admit a patient. Only a small percentage of those who come to the ED complaining of chest pain are actually experiencing a heart attack. For many, the center is able to answer the question about the pain's cause in less than a day without being admitted to the hospital. If you think you may be having a heart attack, dial 9-1-1. Dental Clinic
Our modern dental facility has been specially designed for easy access and maximum comfort for all patients. While we emphasize preventive dental care, special attention is given to providing comprehensive dental treatment for patients with special health care needs or disabilities. During complete oral checkups, a staff dentist will check your teeth, gums, jaws and tongue for signs of disease or abnormality. If you need the help of a specialist, the clinic can arrange treatment with one of its Yale faculty consultants. 24-Hour Emergency Services
Yale-New Haven is a Level 1 trauma facility, one of six in the state of Connecticut. Level 1 facilities are equipped to provide the highest level of care, delivered by expert medical and nursing staffs in the Emergency Department, operating rooms and intensive care units. A helipad located on the roof of the Children's Hospital can accommodate two helicopters and provides quick access to trauma services. Physician referral information.
Surgery
The hospital's operating suites are open around the clock. In addition to most advanced surgical procedures, the latest laparoscopy and microlaparoscopy techniques are used in surgery for the removal of gallbladder, pancreas, kidney and appendix. Laparoscopy is also used for ulcer surgery, hernia repair, certain lung surgeries, liver diagnosis and hysterectomy.

The Dorothy Adler Geriatric Assessment Center, founded in 1981, is one of the oldest and busiest centers for comprehensive geriatric assessment in the country. The center evaluates patients with age-related problems that affect daily functioning--problems such as memory loss, confusion, agitation, depression, "failure to thrive," gait disorders, medication and pain. Individuals with recent decline and threatened loss of independence are particularly suitable. Contact the center by E-mail or by calling (203) 688-6361.
A "partial" hospital program located at 425 George St. offers all the services of a psychiatric inpatient unit except overnight and weekend lodging. A special geriatric track provides special therapy groups for issues such as bereavement and coping with age. Call (203) 688-7201, to make a referral.

Inpatient Services
Yale-New Haven is at the forefront of care for acutely ill geriatric patients. The hospital continues to explore ways of minimizing hospital-related complications to provide smoother discharge. In the Continuing Care Unit, staff work to return patients with combined physical and medical ailments home, rather to a long-term care facility. In one program, staff nurses receive extra training in geriatric nursing. Another program provides daily visits by Elder Horizons specialists and volunteers. Nursing Home Services
A special physician practice follows patients who have been discharged to area nursing homes for subacute care. Physicians make daily rounds at area nursing homes to ensure care is as integrated as possible. Call (203) 688-8200.

Genetic Consultation Service
Diagnosis, management and genetic counseling services for a broad range of hereditary and gene-influenced conditions. Evaluation of birth defects, mental retardation, inborn errors of metabolism, connective tissue disorders, skeletal dysplasias, craniofacial disorders and other possible genetic conditions. GI Procedure Center
Adult and adolescent patients requiring endoscopic and other gastrointestinal procedures to evaluate signs and symptoms, and laboratory abnormalities suggestive of digestive disorders, are seen in the Gastrointestinal Procedure Center. Nutrition clinics, located in both New Haven and Guilford, are staffed by registered dietitians dedicated to providing tailored nutritional care. Occupational Medicine Center
The first hospital-based clinic of its kind in the U.S., the Yale Occupational and Environmental Medicine Center is located at 135 College St. In addition to standard clinical services, the program also offers independent medical examinations (IME) and on-site medical and industrial hygiene services. Pathology
The Department of Pathology provides state-of-the-art diagnostic services in cytology, surgical pathology, molecular diagnostics and autopsy. Plasmapheresis and Transfusion

Patients receive physical and occupational therapy for physical, mental, cognitive or developmental disabilities resulting from illness, injury or another process. After evaluation, individualized treatments are designed to aid recovery and help the patient make the most of his or her abilities
Travelers Tropical Medicine Clinic
Obtain information on international vaccination recommendations for yellow fever, Japanese encephalitis and typhoid, as well as possible allergic reactions caused by vaccinations. The clinic can prescribe appropriate drugs to prevent traveler's diarrhea, provide an effective regimen for malaria prevention, screen for tuberculosis and advise travelers regarding special precautions to be taken during pregnancy. Winchester Chest Clinic (TB assistance)

The special supplemental nutrition program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is a free service in which nutritionists are available to provide nutrition education and counseling. The program is for infants and children up to their fifth birthday, as well as women who are pregnant, postpartum or breastfeeding. The center offers women a coordinated approach to the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease. Services offered by the center include: evaluating noncancerous breast problems, providing second opinions on breast problems, screening with mammography or ultrasound, reviewing test results, advising women at high risk of breast cancer, giving up-to-date treatment for cancerous or noncancerous breast conditions.
