Pediatric Cancer Services

Just for kids

No one has to tell you that having cancer is one of the hardest things you'll ever do. But we want you to know that we're here to help. Got something on your mind? Share it with someone. Ask questions. A lot of times, if you know what's going on, you won't feel so scared. And in the meantime, check out this section made especially for children with cancer.

What about school?
Many kids with cancer can go to school. Of course, this depends on how you are feeling, the type of cancer you have and what your doctor recommends.

The social workers and physician assistants at Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital will work with your school to make your return to school as easy as possible. They can arrange for you to get help with schoolwork at home and they can also talk to your teachers and principal before you return to school.

Depending on how you are feeling, you might go part-time or full-time. But it's a good idea to return to school whenever possible and to keep in touch with your friends. To help you stay in touch, we've added a computer so you can e-mail friends from our Pediatric Specialty Center.

Summer camps
Want to go to camp but didn't think it was possible? There are special camps for children with cancer. These camps let children share their experiences with other kids who are going through the same things. You don't have to explain…they know. And there are still plenty of chances to play, have fun, goof around and…just be a kid!
