From the Nurse's Desk
Television advertisements
Do you ever bug your parents to buy toys you see on TV? Are you ever
disappointed? Sometimes what we see on TV looks and sounds better than
it really is.
Advertisements have a job to do. They must persuade you to
buy something. The people who make ads show only what's good about a toy.
To be smart with your money, you should ask these
questions:
- Do you know anyone who has the same toy or game?
- What do they think?
- Will the store let you see how the toy works before you buy it?
- Will the toy really do what you expect it to do?
Being smart about spending money also means buying toys that are safe
and fun to use.
Activity
Talk with your parents, your teacher or school nurse before you buy anything
that seems too good to be true. It probably is.
