U.S. News & World Report ranks Yale-New Haven Hospital among America's best hospitals

U.S.News & World Report has again designated Yale-New Haven Hospital as one of the nation's top hospitals, according to its annual "America's Best Hospitals" issue.

Yale-New Haven Hospital was ranked among the very best in the country and listed in 12 of the 17 medical specialties evaluated, including cancer, gastroenterology, geriatrics, gynecology, hormonal disorders, kidney disease, orthopedics, otolaryngology, pediatrics, psychiatry, respiratory diseases and urology. Of those, Yale-New Haven's geriatrics and psychiatry departments are ranked among the nation's top 10, and the gastroenterology, gynecology, respiratory diseases and urology departments are ranked among the top 25. These six clinical departments have been selected and honored for their excellence by U.S. News & World Report each year since 1998.

Yale-New Haven Hospital, named in 12 specialties, placed second among all New England hospitals, ranking behind Massachusetts General Hospital, which was named in 14 specialties.

Yale-New Haven Hospital is a major academic medical center that accepts patient referrals and hospital transfers from throughout Connecticut, New England, the nation and the world. Yale-New Haven, one of the area's largest, oldest and most stable employers with nearly 6,000 employees, is well known by consumers in Connecticut through personal experience or the experience of a family member. Last year, the hospital treated more than 43,500 inpatients and more than 440,000 outpatients. Nationally, Yale-New Haven Hospital is one of 50 medical centers that collectively trains nearly 40 percent of the physicians who enter practice in the United States each year. The 944-bed hospital also serves as a major educational resource for nursing and allied health professionals.
