Yale-New Haven Hospital makes U.S. News & World Report’s Honor Roll for America’s Best Hospitals for second consecutive year.

YNHH ranks 19th in the United States

NEW HAVEN – For the second consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report has named Yale-New Haven Hospital (YNHH) to its national honor roll as one of the top hospitals in the United States. YNHH is ranked 19th in the U.S. according to the publication's annual "America's Best Hospital's ranking in the July 14 issue. Yale-New Haven Hospital was one of only three New England hospitals to be selected, joining Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital, both of Boston, on the 2008 honor roll.

"We are very proud and pleased to once again be named to U.S. News and World Report's elite honor roll of America's Best Hospitals," said Peter Herbert, M.D., chief of staff at Yale-New Haven Hospital. "To earn this national recognition for the second consecutive year is a wonderful reflection of the hard work and dedication of our staff, to excellence in all areas of patient care, to the commitment to clinical research by our physicians, to our ability to meet the ever-growing needs of our patients and their families, and to our intention to best serve the people of our community."

In addition to the honor roll distinction as one of the best U.S. hospitals, Yale-New Haven was ranked among the very best in the nation in 11 of the 16 medical specialties considered: cancer; ear, nose and throat; endocrinology; gastrointestinal disorders; geriatric care; gynecology; heart and heart surgery; kidney disease; neurology and neurosurgery; psychiatry and respiratory disorders.

Yale-New Haven Hospital is a primary university teaching hospital that accepts patients from throughout Connecticut, the nation and the world. Last year, the hospital treated more than 50,000 inpatients and more than 500,000 outpatients. One of the area's largest, oldest and most stable employers with approximately 7,200 employees and a medical staff of 3,400, Yale-New Haven Hospital is well known for its clinical excellence and patient service.

Yale-New Haven Hospital is a 944-bed, not-for-profit hospital serving as the primary teaching hospital for the Yale School of Medicine. Yale-New Haven was founded as the fourth voluntary hospital in the U.S. in 1826 and today, the hospital complex includes Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital and Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital, with a combined medical staff of about 3,400 university and community physicians practicing in more than 100 specialties.
